LIFE AND MIND

Starting Wednesday Oct 17th 2007 at 16:30 - 18:00, Room ARUN 401.

This is a one-off announcement sent to several mailing lists. Further

messages will be restricted to the Life and Mind mailing list. If you

message.

The Life and Mind seminars started about a year ago as a small

philosophy seminar/reading/discussion group organized by members of

the CCNR but open to everyone. It has experienced a strong continuous

growth and participation since then.

Our purpose is to meet regularly on Wednesday afternoons to discuss

topics related to cognitive science, philosophy of mind,

phenomenology, psychology, robotics and philosophy of biology in a

relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The aim is to provide a constructive

and collective learning environment for the discussion of complex

ideas at the forefront of modern perspectives in the sciences and

philosophies mind and life. This is done in a seminar-style meeting

featuring

presentations (sometimes by invited external speakers),

demonstrations, open discussion (and even practical sessions and the

occasional game). We also aim at facilitating dialogue and exploring

possible collaborations between people engaged in theoretical,

modelling and empirical work.

Details of last year's presentations, podcasts, discussions, and

related material can be found in the Life and Mind Blog.

Next week's seminar will be an introduction to this year's series

plus a talk by me, Ezequiel Di Paolo, based on a mixture of recent

presentations at the Enaction Summer School in Fréjus and ECAL 2007

in Lisbon with the title:

"Exploring the continuity between life and mind: or more ways to

upset a closet cognitivist"

[abstract to follow]

This meeting is timed at the usual Alergic spot following the recent

decision to have Alergic meetings bi-weekly. By analogy, we shall

finish the meeting adjourning to the IDS bar.

All the best,

Ezequiel
